2004 King Biscuit Blues
Festival
Thursday

The weather was great!
The best of the 3 days in fact. There was a good crowd for opening
day and the bands were great too. We especially enjoyed the Zack
Harmon Blues band out of Los Angeles.

Slick Ballinger had the folks
dancin'

I enjoyed Bobby Radcliff
's distinctive style, and really got into Corey Harris' unique blend of
old and new.

I first saw Jimmy Thackery in
the 70s with the Night Hawks. He's still one of my favorite guitar
players. Thursday night, he even inspired a belly dancer to ply her
trade! Sometimes the stage is only half the show!
Friday

Friday, the weather took a turn
for the worse, but we caught a few of the acts before the rain got the
better of us. Eddie Po was a real treat...
As was Toni Lynn Washington.
When the rains got too bad, we left the festival and headed north to Tunica
to see one of our favorite performers, piano wildman Rockin' Jason D. Williams,
who's still the closest you can see to The Killer.
Saturday

The rains were steady on Saturday,
but we decided to endure the rains to see the later part of the show, especially
Gatemouth Brown.
Each year we see an act which
shines even brighter in a live setting. This year, it was the Holmes
Brothers. They're really electric and inspiring!

We saw Marcia Ball several years
ago in Nashville, so we knew she'd put on a great show and she did not
disappoint! She's such a great player and really interacts with the
crowd well. Another of my favorite guitar players, Pat Boyack joined
her band a while back and it was great to see him play.

Finally, Gatemouth Brown took
the stage, and we got to see the Legend we stood in the rain to see.
We left soaked in the Blues, in addition to the rain. Let's hope
next year that the music is just as good, but the weather is a whole lot
drier!!!
